What it's like to be a feminist trans-man

Here is a smart and thoughtful piece written by a feminist trans-man (a female-to-male transgendered person) about his experiences with gender doctors (who expect him to hate his female body), some gay men, and feminists.

I could be a man in feminist space, but I don't think the kind of man I would have to be is a kind of man I am capable of being. I am a gentle man, but that is not good enough. I'm also a wordy man, a brainy man, and I spent enough years as an intelligent girl and young woman being told to shut up, and that my intelligence was WORTHLESS, that I REFUSE to be in a place where I will CONSTANTLY be told that again. This upsets me a lot. I feel like my knowledge, perspectives, and passion could still be of a lot of use to the feminist community. But I also feel that because of WHO I AM, I am no longer welcome to speak.

The whole article is worth reading.

(Thanks, as always, to Ampersand.)
